Gary Foutch
Appointed to the AIChE Education and Accreditation Committee
Kerr-McGee Chair and Regents
Professor, Gary L. Foutch, has just been appointed to the National
Education and Accreditation Committee of AIChE. The committee is
part of ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology
programs, which audits and accredits all engineering and technology
programs in the US. Gary has been an accreditation visitor for ABET
for the past 11 years, and has now risen onto the committee that
manages all Chemical Engineering accreditation activities. The
Education and Accreditation committee advises schools on methods and
standards of chemical engineering education, and manages the process
of inspecting and evaluating chemical engineering programs to make
recommendations for accreditation.
The OSU family can be proud of the
professional accomplishment and national leadership that Gary’s
appointment reflects. Dr. Foutch started as an assistant professor
here in 1980 and has progressed to the most prestigious professor
level within the university. He is widely recognized for his
contributions to understanding the chemical processes used for
making ultrapure water (necessary for commercial boilers, nuclear
reactors, and semiconductor manufacturing). Like most faculty
leadership roles, this appointment is a volunteer activity, and Gary
will retain his teaching and research commitments for the
University.
