Assistant Professor Sundar Madihally Receives 2005 President's Leadership Award

Of the hundreds of faculty and staff members who advise students and student organizations at OSU, 42 were student-nominated for the 2005 President's Leadership Award.  Sundar Madihally was one of the five selected based on his advising of the Indian Students' Association (ISA).   ISA is large compared to most student organizations - with more than two hundred ISA members serving more than 600 students and the Indian community at OSU.  During the academic year, ISA participates and organizes a number of events including the well-attended Diwali Night (the mid winter festival of lights), a signature event in which attendance is limited by the space available for the audience.  It is organized in celebration of one of Indian festivals; and the program is a potpourri of diverse Indian culture, including dances and music from classical to new-generation "pop", movies, and songs.  Last year, ISA started a new scholarship program, Masti, recognizing talents in students from Indian origin.

Sundar is an assistant professor in chemical engineering and started at OSU in January 2002 after several years in a research position at Harvard Medical School.  He teaches the reaction kinetics, biomedical engineering, and unit operation lab courses. He also co-advises the AIChE Student Chapter and the Chemical Reaction Powered Car Competition.

The 2005 President's Leadership Award recognizes Sundar for his commitment to the students, and his energy and creativity in inspiring and developing students into the leaders that run the ISA programs.  In addition, two of the ISA student officers were among 8 from throughout the University who were also recognized for leadership.  Great job, Sundar!
